labiaplasty
An Overview
Labiaplasty is an aesthetic surgical procedure to reshape and beautify the external appearance of the female genitalia or treat functional impairment.
Due to elongated labia, some women feel discomfort during sexual intercourse, while wearing tight-fitted clothes, performing exercises or even during daily activities.
Women who feel emotionally stressed due to their labia or its outward appearance and wish to get its size reduced can achieve vaginal rejuvenation through labiaplasty
Why is Labiaplasty done?
Most of the time, women undergo vaginal rejuvenation for aesthetic reasons. But sometimes, vaginal childbirth can damage the tissues of the vagina and increase its size. When a mother puts a lot of pressure on the muscles during the delivery process, the vaginal diameter increases significantly. Labiaplasty is done to reconstruct the damaged tissues of the vagina to be aesthetically appealing and functionally healthy.
Who is a candidate for Labiaplasty?
Women who experience looseness in the vagina during intimate moments or have vaginal laxity can opt for this treatment. You are a good candidate for treatment;
If your vaginal opening size has increased
If you want to enhance your vagina appearance
If you feel reduced sensation during intercourse
If the tampon falls off because of looseness
If you get urinary tract infections frequently
If you are experiencing pain/discomfort during/after sexual intercourse
If you feel irritation or discomfort caused by rubbing against clothing
If you dislike the appearance of “hanging” vaginal lips
If you have labial tears during natural childbirth
If you feel chronic discomfort, or irritation
Surgical techniques for Labiaplasty
Customized plan for each Labiapasty. Based on the health and requirements of the patient, general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation can be given to patients. The two most popular surgical techniques are –
Tim Method – Surgery is done through an incision to cut the outer edges of the labia, making them inline or slightly shorter than the outer labia. Through this technique, the naturally darkest part of the labia gets trimmed.
Wedge Method – The labia minora is reduced using the edge technique, in which the skin on the edge of the labia minora is trimmed, and a pie-shaped excision is made. This technique is preferred by patients who want to remove hyperpigmentation or darkened edges of the labia minora.
Post-procedure care for Labiaplasty Surgery
Postoperative care is very important and should be followed precisely as suggested by the surgeon. For safe and optimal recovery, keeping hygiene is crucial.
You will be prescribed medications for pain and inflammation to relieve the discomfort. An antibiotic drug may be prescribed to reduce the risk of infection.
Although recovery varies from one patient to another, most women can resume a daily routine in a week or fortnight. Refraining from intimate activities for at least six weeks after the surgery is required for better healing and results.
Women recovering from the procedure are advised to :
- Wear loose-fitting clothes to avoid friction and excessive pain.
- Apply ice packs to reduce pain sensations
- Take salt baths to relieve soreness and swelling.
- Avoid rigorous exercise and activities.
- Avoid intercourse and tampons for at least 4 to 6 weeks.
While most swelling will be gone after six weeks, residual swelling may take a few months to disappear.
Results after Labiaplasty Surgery
Noticeable results are seen immediately after the procedure, but the tightening process takes 2 or 3 weeks. Gradually, you can expect the following results:
- It feels more firm and sensitive
- The vagina looks aesthetically attractive
- Any lubrication or countenance issues are resolved
